£450,000 worth free fire engine is offered by the Central Scotland fire and rescue service. The region to benefit from this free fire engine is Dumfries. Assistant chief fire officer with Dumfries and Galloway fire and rescue service, Hamish McGhie welcomes this news and said that it will be very useful to the region. The move will benefit people in Dumfries and Galloway, he added.

Two unused combined aerial rescue platforms (CARPs) had been offered for sale, but now it is offered free of cost. CARPs are very heavy to be used on the UK roads and Dumfries and Galloway fire service will work to solve the weight issue. The vehicles were left unused at the Central Scotland for years and it was bought for £400,000 along with added costs. Central Scotland fire service bought the vehicles in 2005 but was never used. Since, these vehicles are combined into one it cuts down work force and operating costs. These two vehicles are now offered for free of cost to Fire chiefs in Dumfries.

Hamish said that the transfer does not require replacement of the exciting appliance next year, resulting in the relocation of funds. The saved money can be used to a new project that involves construction of a new training facility at Garroch Loaning.
