November 5th, 2011 by Sandy

As part of the forthcoming festive season, Chesterfield is offering Free Parking Service at their council sites. This move will encourage late night shopping during the Christmas season. Borough Council has agreed this latest move, although it could result a deficit in income of £9,500.

On selected days, parking at the Chesterfield’s council sites will be free after 4pm. Traders will open till 7pm on Thursday beginning from November 24 to week before Christmas. The will open till late night until 8pm between December 19 and December 23. By offering this free parking service, people can shop during nights at Chesterfield without bothering about the parking fees. Customers will be attracted to the traders and shops at Chesterfield with the free parking service.

For final approval, this proposal will go to the cabinet on Tuesday. It is hoped that people would prefer local shopping at Chesterfield due to the free parking services. Already, the authority is £15,000 deficient of increased income target for parking services and with the free parking service £9,500 more will be added to the income shortfall.

However, this could open better sales possibilities for local shoppers. More customers will be attracted to the town for shopping this festive season.
