All the Royal Bank of Scotland debit card holders may now enjoy yet another free service that the bank has just introduced. You will be able to withdraw cash and enquire your account balance at any of the UK Post Office outlets nationwide. The new service which opened to the public last Friday, is completely free of charge and can be utilised by all RBS debit card holders.

RBS, one of the top retail bankers in the UK has around 700 branches across the England and Wales. The bank has over 19 million debit card holders which accounts to 80% of the total in the whole of UK. As long as you have your debit card and PIN to your account, you will be able to withdraw cash just over the counter.

With RBS now sharing space with other banks who offer the same free service, HSBC and Santander customers are beginning to face disappointments. The banks are being urged to allow their consumers enjoy such convenient services. In the recent past, a number of banks in the UK have closed down over a total of 200 branches. A free service that allows consumers access their accounts from any post office branch would definitely help people who might have lost the last bank in their area.

Consumer Focus, the statutory consumer champion for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, stated in a report last month that all street banks operating in the UK should allow consumers complete access to their bank accounts via the Post Office network. After RBS announced this free service, Adam Scorer, Director of External Affairs, Consumer Focus stated that it is good news for customers who would want to often bank at the post office. He added that the Post Office should also improve its services to support and maintain the quality of its operations with expansion. Scorer who criticized HSBC and Santander forĀ  keeping options closed for the public, even encouraged people to switch banks if they are not satisfied with the service offered.
