The solar panels are provided free if the qualification standards of the ‘Free Solar Panels’ are adhered to. Free Electricity to operate the household appliances can be generated by the Solar PV Panels.
Landlords or property owners can avail the opportunity. They have to ensure the following-
- Minimum 20 Square Meters of flat roof space must be available.
- The roof should have direct exposure to sunlight, meaning, it should not be shaded by the surrounding buildings, structures, trees etc.
- The roof must be on the South, South East or South West.
If the above criteria are met, the landlord becomes eligible for applying for Free Solar Panels for the home. The landlord can thus avail the resultant free electricity.
As per the ‘Feed in Tariff’ scheme of April 2010 of the UK Government, the landlord can avail the services of a Solar PV Installer for getting the work done free. The installer will claim the cost of around GBP 15,000 from the government. The landlord can enjoy free electricity from then on.
There is also a facility of paying the amount for the panels and reimbursing it from the ‘Feed in Tariff’ of the government.
The application can be filled up and submitted ‘online’. An authorized Energy advisor from the Installing Company will call on the landlord to ascertain whether the roof is suitable. If so, the date of installation will be decided.
The life of the panels will be of 25 years duration with proper maintenance. But it can last much longer.
