Free School to be run by ex-soldiers

A new Free School – The Phoenix, is being proposed to open up in Manchester. The school would completely be run by ex-servicemen and would also be similar to other academic institutions. However, the free school will be semi-independent and state-funded as the other free schools in the country.

Lord Guthrie, a former soldier who strongly backs the plan, says that many schools are currently failing to instill a sense of respect for the roughest and toughest of situations and the free school would work on imparting education along with other such important behavioral aspects among children. The Phoenix Free School would probably be launched within 2 years from now and it would serve children between 11 and 18 years of age.

The free school is said to place emphasis on outdoor and sports activities, enforce strict rules of discipline, promote healthy competition and stream all these aspects in the lines of academic abilities. The school intends to appoint an army captain as the head and it plans to offer children education along with the abilities to demonstrate self-discipline and respect.

Free schools are a cornerstone of Prime Minister David Cameron’s project and they are entirely set up and run by parents, teachers, associations and other groups across the UK.
