Free event at New Cycling Grand Prix at Lancaster

A brand new free event of cycling – Lancaster Grand Prix will take place on Sunday – June 9, 2019 at Lancaster. The event has been organized by The Lune Racing Cycling Club along with the partnership with British Cycling, Lancaster City Council and Lancashire County council.

You can see a top class 140 riders in the field competing from Britain’s elite men’s cycling teams. The cycling race will begin and end up at at the Ashton Memorial, Williamson Park, Williamson Rd, Lancaster LA1 3QA. It will start at 10 am from Ashton Memorial before with a parade ride from Salt Ayre Leisure Centre to Williamson Park and end up at 2.30 pm. There will be a coverage of a hilly 100 mile course on the roads in the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

As a part of the race, there will be a free festival of events and displays focusing families to motivate healthy lifestyle taking place in Williamson Park at Quernmore Rd, Lancaster LA1 1UX running from 9.30 am on the day. There will be food stalls including artisan toasties, barbeque gazebo etc and face painting, activities for kids, bouncy castle and attractions. There will also be free health checkup by Salt Ayre Leisure Centre, stands from local bike shops and live music throughout the day by the Skiddle bus.

Commercial Director of British Cycling – Jonathan Rigby said that The HSBC UK, National Road Series is showcasing the best of British road racing and they are committed to build a wonderful events of sports in the country.

Chairman of Lune Racing Cycling Club – Graham Jones said that he feels delighted to bring such top-class bike race to Lancaster and thanking the Lancaster City and Lancashire County Councils for their help. They hope to make it in the future also still more special for the area.
