Fun Palaces is an annual weekend celebration campaign that has been created to promote culture of the community with various activities such as craft, science, spanning arts, digital, tech, sports and heritage run for and by local communities. Fun Palaces 2018 is being celebrated on Saturday – October 6 & Sunday – October 7, 2018.
On the occasion of Fun Palaces 2018 weekend celebrations, Reading Council’s Library Service will be organising for a bundle of free, fun events at various libraries across the council on Saturday – October 6, 2018. Upon the success of last year’s Fun Palace Day, this year also the families in the council can expect a day with fun filled free activities and events for all ages such as origami crafts, treasure hunting, slime making, Lego robot construction, duck race, science themed activities, bottle rocket craft, space quiz, board games etc.
Reading’s Lead Member for Culture, Heritage and Recreation – Cllr Sarah Hacker said that they are delighted for their active participation in Fun Palaces 2018 hosting across council’s all libraries. The fun weekend day will bring the community together and offer with skills and free activities for all local residents to enjoy more.
Free events at various libraries at Reading are as below:
Reading Central Library at Abbey Square, Reading RG1 3BQ
- Bugs and Butterflies craft between 10 am to 3 pm. Make some bugs and butterflies for library’s garden with all craft materials available.
- Make a Beeswax Candlestick between 10.30 am to 11.30 am
- Make Your Own Snail Slime between 12.15 am to 1 pm
- Duck Race at 1.15 pm – you can enjoy a rubber duck race that is happening in the Holybrook under the library.
- Robot Vehicle Introduction between 2 pm to 3 pm. Build with Lego robots and vehicles on your own creations.
Caversham Library at Church St, Reading RG4 8AU
- Make Paper Plate birds activity suitable for kids aged 3 to 7 years between 10 am to 12.15 pm
- Meet members of Reading Bee Keepers Association between 10 am to 12.15 pm
- Make a Decorated Notebook activity suitable for kids aged 5 to 11 years between 10 am to 12.15 pm
- Letterpress printing on your hand between 12 pm to 2.30 pm
- Science Fun with Dr Phil the Water Wizard between 1 pm to 2.30 pm
- Make Origami Animals between 12.45 pm to 2.30 pm
- Board Game bonanza between 12.45 pm to 2.30 pm
Battle Library at 420 Oxford Rd, Reading RG30 1EE
- Bottle Rockets Craft between 10.30 am to 11.30 am
- Planetarium Craft between 1 pm to 2 pm
- Planets Treasure Hunt & Space Quiz running full day
Palmer Park Library at St Bartholomews Rd, Reading RG1 3QB
- Fun and Games of chess, snakes & ladders etc between 10 am to 1 pm
- Decorate a Door Hanger between 10 am to 1 pm
Whitley Library at 252 Northumberland Ave, Reading RG2 7PX
- Play with Clay activity between 11 am to 12 pm where you can make a pot that can be collected by next week.
Tilehurst Library at School Rd, Reading RG31 5AS
- As a part of Turn Tilehurst Red Campaign, you can join for making poppies for their window display marking the celebrations of centenary of World War One end.
