A free workshop on identifying the wild flowers will be held on Thursday – June 21, 2018 in Whitehaven. The workshop is being organised by the Cumbria Biodiversity Data Centre and the Colourful Coast Partnership as a part of their nature recorder series. It is scheduled between 10 am to 3 pm.
The Colourful Coast is a partnership project taking care of shores from Whitehaven to St Bees for their great ecology and history of the areas. The Cumbria Biodiversity Data Centre is a registered charity engaged in collecting, analysing and sharing information on wildlife, natural history and habitats in Cumbria to help for education and research and people to maintain their lands’ sustainability.
This kind of workshop is being conducted to encourage the local people to identify and record the information collected on the species and habitats found in the Copeland coast. This session will include identifying the wild flowers by using key, hand lens and books and also other flower varieties and grasses commonly found there. The CBDC is also engaging those interested in joining as volunteer in making wildlife records.
Recording Officer, Cumbria Biodiversity Data Centre – Stuart Colgate said that the centre is having almost records of species, but still they want more information. This session is aimed to encourage people to come out and record the findings what they find which will be a good record of information of plants and animals in the area.
Colourful Coast Project Officer – Sophie Badrick said that now it is the right time to come out and participate in the journey of finding wild flowers, plants etc. Whether you have any knowledge or not, you can take part it and gain knowledge on amazing species in your area.
