Exeter pride event, in 10th year, one of the busiest pride events

April 22nd, 2018 by Sandy

The annual Exeter pride event will be celebrating its 10th year on the 12th May, 2018. One of the busiest pride events in southern England, the Pride’s chair, Adam Rank, expects a real celebration feel this year, it being the 10th anniversary and to consider how far they have come since it began. To stage the event, Adam Rank said, they work closely with partners like the University of Exeter, Somerset Fire & Rescue Service, Devon and Cornwall Police, Devon County Council, Exeter City Council and local businesses. This year the pride is Celebration.

Exeter Pride has a big parade to officially open the festival. It starts from St. Sidwell Centre, to move on to Exeter High Street and then to Northernhay-Gardens, with the highlight being the volunteers carrying a 50 metre rainbow flag. The parade will have thousands involved, including Street Heat samba, representatives of community organisations, Morris dancers, an ambulance, a fire-engine, roller skaters and more.

Exeter Pride is a free event enjoyed by all of the community. However, a wristband (£10) is being sold to support the pride event, which also offers discounts until next year, at a variety of businesses across Exeter. The announcement of the full programme is at the end of April. Those wishing to join in can bring a fully charged phone, sunscreen and money of course. For more information, visit their site – exeterpride.co.uk, and the wristband can be bought online too.
