The ‘Festival of Teaching’ is a 10-day celebration of teaching which takes the classes from lecture halls into the city. Running for the first time, De Mont University Leicester (DMU) will demonstrate different styles of teaching and methods to communicate subjects by the lecturers, from 16th to 27th April at the festival.
Many of the events in the new festival are open to public and include a mix of demonstrations, talks and practical events. Some of them are are highlighted here. A free workshop in ‘Architecture’, at New Walk Museum, shows how homes for the poor is built, made by students for housing around the world.
Screenwriting tips will be given in classes run at the Phoenix Cinema by two DMU lecturers, who are experts. ‘Footwear Design’ is where people will be taken by students through the design process of footwear. A demonstration will show how companies use Lego to teach “soft skills” to their employees who need it at the LCB Depot to work. King Richard III Visitor Centre will host Dr. Simon Perril, poet and lecturer, whose sessions will teach people to be creative.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the university, Prof. Jackie Labbe, said DMU staff get a chance to showcase their talent and to demonstrate teaching. She invited people from across Leicester to the festival to experience the free events here.
