A free event in Hyde Park, Yon HaShoah, will mark the 75th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, in the weekend. On this Sunday, 15th April, hundreds are set to gather for Israel’s Holocaust Remembrance Day in London. The event will feature Laura Pradelska, actress in Game of Thrones, who will recall stories of her 4 grandparents, all of whom survived the Holocaust.
This is also the date of Bergen-Belsen liberation, which also is for Gena Turgel, a former inmate. She will be recalling her story and how the English soldier, Norman Turgel, helped in liberateing the camp. Later she married Norman Turgel and she now lives in North London.
The unknown story of Jacques Weisser will be heard by those attending the ceremony. He is executive director of AJEX and vice president of Yom HaShoah UK, who was as a child smuggled by his mother out of Belgium, before she was taken to and killed in Auschwitz.
The free event for Yom HaShoah this year will have the theme ‘defiance’ and it will be staged in Hyde Park’s National Holocaust Memorial Gardens. The ceremony will feature readings, songs and performances from choirs of Jewish primary schools and from male voice choirs.
