Free events mark return of Dorset Art Week 2018

March 31st, 2018 by Sandy

The popular biennial Dorset Arts Week is set to return in 2018 and will run from 26th May to 10th June. The event which started back in 1992, marked 25 years last year. Produced by Dorset Visual Arts, this year there’s a fantastic line-up of exhibitions, open studios and events, taking place across the county, including 312 free venues.

The aim of the Dorset Art Week (DAW) event is to enable the public to see the work of local artists and meet them in their settings, in a workshop or a studio, surrounded by the materials and tools, which can stimulate results and make progress too.

DAW is supported by Wyke Dorset Cottages and Hall & Woodhouse (Badger Beer label). The success of the event can be attributed to the fact that it is really county-wide festival. The furniture maker, sculptor, potter, print-maker, painter, photographer and textile artist of Dorset are all here to visit. After Easter, the new DAW brochure will be reaching libraries, art and tourist info centres, with also the DAW website going live. Plan your tours by a named artist, art form or geography.

DAW is a fee event with venues free to visit. Only a 1-day fundraising event at John Makepeace’s home and gardens is a non-free event. The DAW 2018 guide can be ordered from Dorset Visual Arts by email (admin@dorsetvisualarts.org) and got by post (postage £3.30). For more info follow on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
