BT WebProtect is BT’s free product to help its broadband customers and their families stay safe online. There are two products, BT WebProtect and BT VirusProtect, that can be used together, to keep customers safe online.
When browsing online, the BT WebProtect, as a secutity product, helps to stay safe and warns when visiting a website that is potentially harmful, or at risk of scams, viruses and phising attacks. It works at the network level on your home broadband, to protect all devices connected and when using your BT ID, even on a BT Wi-fi hotspot. No need to download, you just activate it. Also no need to set up on each device individually.
However, BT VirusProtect is an anti-virus software that needs to be downloaded. It protects your devices from online threats, such as spyware, scams, viruses, phising attacks and similar vulnerabilities, like downloaded files, or USB devices. But this will cost you, depending on your broadband package and number of devices.
As for BT WebProtect, this is a totally free product, for customers of BT Broadband. It is very easy to start using… just turn it on! Working on the background via a BT Hub at home, or BT Wi-Fi hotspot, you need just to log in using the BT ID. A warning will appear on screen, if it finds an unsafe website that could harm your device, or compromise your personal data, or when you click on an unsafe link. You can also override the warning to continue, with whatever device you are on, a smartphone, tablet, laptop or computer, connected to your home network.
