Free tickets to see Dippy the Dinosaur on tour

February 12th, 2018 by Sandy

The famed skeleton cast of a Diplodocus, called Dippy, of the National History Museum (NHM), London, is touring the UK this year. The skeleton cast of the dinosaur, never before on display outside of the Natural History Museum since its arrival in London in 1905, is all set to travel the country, on its very own tour, as The Dippy on Tour: A Natural History Adventure, thanks to a partnership of the NHM with Garfield Weston Foundation, supported by DELL EMC and Williams & Hill.

Dorset has been selected as the first stop of the tour. The exhibition is supported here by the Jurassic Coast Trust and was revealed on Friday (9 February). At the Dorset County Museum and across Dorset, there will be many events themed on Dippy. The tour will help young people to explore the past, present and future of UK’s natural history, to connect and to understand through science the natural world.

Free tickets are being given for entry to the exhibition and they can be reserved in advance to avoid disappointment (www.dorsetcountymuseum.org/dcm/events/list/65/dippy-on-tour/). Visitors will be allocated time slots (60 mins) specified, on a first come, first served basis. Dippy on Tour will visit five regions across England, besides Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The exhibitions, in this order, will be hosted in Dorchester at Dorset County Museum, in Birmingham at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, in Belfast at Ulster Museum, in Glasgow at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, in Newcastle upon Tyne at Great North Museum: Hancock, in Cardiff at National Assembly for Wales, in Rochdale at Number One Riverside and in Norwich at Norwich Cathedral. Five million are expected to see the world famous skeleton over the next 2 years, at the various venues planned.
