Glasgow Film Festival celebrates and showcases fresh new films from Ireland and the Baltic. The annual event returns to Glasgow for the 14th time, on 21st February, running till 4th March, in 2018. Mica Levi, the Oscar nominated composer, comes to the festival to celebrate ‘The Unfilmables’, showcasing the greatest films ever made along with electronics pioneer Wrangler.
The explosive speedway documentary ‘Mm’ by Margaret Salmon, will have a live soundtrack performed by Sacred Paws, the winners of Scottish Album of the Year 2017. The legendary special events screening of the festival are back too. Glasgow club SWG is to turn into a 80s vs 90s school disco showing high-school classics like Clueless and Gregory’s Girl. Ther’s a retrospective of classics showing the Rebel Heroes of Hollywood, starring Sidney Poiter, James Dean and others. Jack Kilni’s The Dissidents, is the UK Premiere to be screened. The 12-day festival programme has lots more to offer to film fans.
Original film-making talent from the neighbouring areas and from abroad will be highlighted by Ireland:The Near Shore. There will be a focus on new talented women directors. The line-up includes the highly anticipated The Breadwinner, an animated feature and Scottish première. Another UK première is of the coming-of-age story – Kiss Candice, a debut film of Aoife McArdle, the music director. Other highlights include screening of Michael Inside and The Cured. The festival’s morning matinees return with a season dedicated to ant-heroes and these free events are those that perfectly kick-start a day at the festival.
