The upcoming Lumiere London, the outdoor light festival, is the second edition and coming soon to the UK’s capital. The production company of the lighting show, Artichoke, has revealed 10 of the artworks. They will be staging the spectacular event across the capital from the 18th to the 21st of January, 2018.
The works that have been revealed include a series of singing see-saws, illuminated and interactive, installed in Mayfair’s South London Street. There’s an immersive work at Kings Cross that imagines an underwater world. Another work is flamingos flying over Chinatown. In Leake Street , there is the triptych of animated self-portraits. In Piccalilli, across the facade of the Royal Academy of Arts, there’s Mattisse-inspired dancing. On Regent Street there’s a projection onto the iconic building of Hotel Cafe Royal, that meditates on the time from the Industrial Revolution to the present day.
In this edition of Lumiere London in 2018, the event extends through 6 areas, from North to South, across the River Thames. The areas include Southbank & Waterloo, Westminster & Victoria, London’s west End and Kings Cross, Fitzrovia. In the creation of the number of festival artworks across the city, Londoners will also get an opportunity to participate. Lumiere London commissioned by Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, is the capital city’s biggest event and produced by Artichoke. The Mayor has hailed it as one of the city’s most spectacular free events to take place here.
