A fantastic light art festival is being held in Salford Quays and drawing in large crowds from across the North West. Lightwaves 2017 is taking place from Friday, hosted by Quays Culture, running until Sunday, 17th December.
The annual festival will showcase over public spaces, an eclectic programme, over an unforgettable 10 days. It will feature digital light art and exclusive commissioned digital art displays. Find here emerging talent of local, national and international repute holding light workshops. Lightwaves 2017 will feature 12 free light experiences, spanning across Salford Quays.
‘Hydrozome’ is Dekyvere’s new commission that highlights the connections between people, reflecting the network of current society, by displaying vast amounts of light-emitting rope coiled together to form a network. Jackie Kay, Scotland’s national poet and chancellor of University of Salford, will be collaborating with Soup Collective to produce a large-scale commission, a new neon word-sign exclusively for Quays Culture.
A collective installation here, combining projections of digital and physical worlds and live dance, is put together by How Creative and Brink Dance Company. ‘Symbiosis’ is an immersive and interactive installation, visualising visitors breath via a digital dome of LEDs, created by Kira Zhigalina. The successful Light Graffiti Workshop of Sarah Wakefield returns this year too.
Quays Culture, all through the year, combines latest digital and cutting-edge tech with world-class artists’ vision, to deliver cultural events and outdoor arts. Visitors to Lightwave 2017 will view 8 artworks, which is in the Lowry galleries and part of the ‘humansbedigital’ exhibition. The free event runs everyday from 12 noon to 10:30pm.
