The Science Museum will be celebrating 40 years of the gaming industry by launching an interactive video game pop up, Power Up, set up in partnership with the European Gaming League. The venue, in the South Kensington museum in East London, will be putting up 180 gaming consoles for visitors to try out hundreds of video games spanning decades.
Whether a fan of classics or a millennial gamer, there’s something for all those who love video games at Power Up.Visitors can see and feel the technology and how far it has come in the last decades, right from games like Pong, that captured the youngsters attention years back, to the current futuristic offerings of PlayStation VR.
The exhibition here is suitable for children. The museum is also hostin,g as part of Power Up, sessions for adults only, starting with a late session on 25 October and more sessions on 26 and 27 October. Power Up features panels on the history of gaming. There is also a world premiere of footage from The Play Station Revolution, the forthcoming documentary. An additional free workshop, Game On, will be for the those interested in creating video games. Here visitors can learn to use every day objects to make gaming consoles.
Science Museum group commercial director, Michelle Lockhart, said they were happy to brig back Power Up, following its big success last year. The director remarked that there is something for everyone here, from parents to retro-fans, to gaming enthusiasts, as the draw of video games is universal and is reflected in their offering here. Science Museum has brought back the pop up in a bigger and better form this year as last year it was a huge success.
