The Last Post is to be played and remembrance services are to be held on every Friday, at 6pm, at the Plymouth Naval Memorial, until 17th November, Friday. The Last Post will be played at the wonderful poppy display, during a series of Remembrance services, to be heard across the Hoe. Members of the public are invited to watch the performances at the services by the Royal Marines Band Plymouth and the 6 Rifles Band.
The Act of Remembrance starts off with the Last Post to be played by a bugler. Then a reading of For the Fallen will follow. Following will be a minutes’ silence and then the Reveille played by the bugler to end it. The performance coincides with the Poppies:Wave presentation at the memorial by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC). The poppies sculpture at the memorial is by Paul Cummins (artist) and Tom Piper (designer) and will be open for display till 19th November, as part of the tour by 14-18 NOW across UK.
Trained volunteers will be present at the CWGC memorial, from 10am to 6pm, to tell about the memorial and poppies everyday. Plymouth City Council and CWGC will be organising free events in relation to the poppies display. The CWGC website hosts more information on this and others. The iconic poppy sculpture is organised by UK’s arts programme for the First-World-War centenary, the 14-18 NOW. The programme gives people across the country an opportunity to experience the ceramic poppy sculpture, mainly at places related tot the First World War.
