Dippy the Dinosaur is coming to Dorchester

Dippy the Dinosaur will be leaving the Natural History Museum in London, as part of a national tour, and coming to West County on its first stop at Dorchester. Dippy the Diplodocus will be at the Dorset County Museum for viewing. The Dippy Tour: A Natural History Adventure exhibition is expected to break any box-office records previously held, given the number of pre-booked school tickets given away.

Director of Dorset County Museum, Dr. Jon Murden, is happy to see the enthusiasm of schools and pupils to avail this opportunity, that’s once in a generation. He said pupils from across the South West region are learning about dinosaurs that lived all those year ago and are modelling or painting their own Dippys. He welcomed them to see Dippy close up and personal and for their enthusiasm. Some have already enrolled into the Jurassic Coast Trust run initiative of Big Jurassic Classroom and all others are very keen, he remarked. Dippy at over 4 metres tall and 2 metres in length just barely fits in the Victorian Gallery, he added.

The Dorset County Museum website will have the general-public ticket reservation site going live on 1st October (Sunday). There’s free entry to the Dippy Exhibition, with specific time slots being allocated for visitors on a first come, first served basis. However, to avoid any disappointment, visitors are advised to book their tickets as early as possible.
