ScotRail Alliance to give away £1m worth of free tickets
The ScotRail Alliance is giving away free tickets worth £1 million. The free off-peak day return tickets for some of the top destinations of Scotland as a giveaway, is a gesture of thank you to its customers. This is also an opportunity to show that a variety of destinations can be visited via the rail network. A week’s free travel for both monthly and annual season ticket holders was jointly funded by ScotRail Alliance and Transport Scotland, earlier this year.
ScotRail Alliance’s Managing Director, Alex Hynes, said the offer of free leisure travel is a part of making commuters get involved, as the network covers some amazing scenery and these tickets are the means to enjoy it. The Minister for Transport and the Islands, Hamza Yousaf, said while they were investing £5 billion to transform Scotland’s railways, the giveaway is to recognise and reward the passenger’s patience and custom. He added that their ambitious programme will be bringing in new faster, longer and greener electric trains, enhanced services and station facilities, which should encourage more people out of cars that benefits the environment and health.
The free tickets have been made available online from 6th September (Wednesday), on a first-come-first-served basis, from 10am. The offer will be closing on 15th September (Friday). Tickets that have been obtained online should be used between 18th September and 30th November.
Free workshop on opera singing, by Opera South East, in Hastings
Opera South East are holding a free workshop on opera singing for those interested in singing in an opera. The free taster session will be held on 17th September, Sunday, at the White Rock in Hastings, between 2pm and 5pm.
An afternoon of music and artistic direction will give the participants an opportunity to try out singing and moving under direction, after learning a short chorus piece. They also get an opportunity to sing in the forthcoming production of Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky, with the Opera south East, in the coming April.
This group consists of friendly and enthusiastic singers coming from all walks of life and have given full-scale opera performances for over 30 years in Hastings. Their productions are innovative and exciting with professional directors employed in each production. The company starts it from a scratch, allowing unconstrained creativity in their approach.
