The Big Caribbean Cookot, a free event, will be hosted Leicester’s Market Square on 28th August (Monday). The interesting food festival happening this August Bank Holiday offers culinary delights, children’s rides, live music and entertainment. The event is Caribbean, offering music like Reggae, Soca, Ska and Calipso, played by live bands and DJs. It also provides a learning platform and employment for young people, who will be operating stalls with their products or working alongside quality chefs. Archie’s Ol’ Rum Shack will serve drinks. Plukd will offer prizes for the Wing Sing Challenge.
The Leicester-based The community Giants, a social enterprise, is behind the event, teaming up with entertainers, DJs and established chefs to bring a taste of the Caribbean. They are dedicated to help young adults economically and socially disadvantaged, to train them and for their self-employment. MD of the social enterprise, John Palmer, said they were happy to implement monthly youth markets and now with regular themed events are taking a step further to benefit the young people with opportunities and also the larger community. This free event and such events, will really help many struggling young people they hope, with local businesses supporting it. The Big Caribbean Cookout will offer something for everyone, providing gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options, starting at 11am, in the Jubilee Square, on this summer Bank Holiday.
