A month-long tribute to Andy Warhol is coming to Croydon, in St. George’s Walk, at the RISEgallery, under the theme ‘Warhol Croydon’. A programme of free events will be delivered through September, commemorating his life and work, 30 years after the legendary American artist’s death.
Some of the activities include a street exhibition curated by RISEgallery and the artist Dotmasters, featuring tributes by some of the leading artists of today. Giant artworks will be displayed across the town centre over prominent buildings and lit up at night, with free guided tours happening twice daily.
A free exhibition will be hosted at RISEgallery displaying Andy Warhol artworks. There’s a series of Warhol films and documentaries screened for free, with lectures and talks, with some by international speakers. Each week of the event will have a host of family-friendly activities with support from the local community. All are free events.
Founder of RISEgallery, Kevin Zuchowski-Morrison, said the name of Andy Warhol is evocative in the world of art, attracting record breaking visitors. He added that they expect throughout the month some 100,000 visitors, as the reputation of Croyden as one of the cultural epicentres of London continues to grow.
