The Sompting Festival will be held at Sompting Recreation Ground, for 3 days over the weekend. Sompting is in coastal Adur District of West Sussex and the festival is packed with free events that are fit for the whole family. Starting on Friday (30th June) at 2pm, is a day for children. There will be free events to enjoy, like old-fashioned style fairground rides.
Anne Godley, parish councillor, said they want all children to have equal access to all activities as there are areas of deprivation here. On Friday (1st July), there’ll be a choir from a Sompting school performing and a children’s disco will finish off the day from 5pm to 7pm. The councillor encourages everyone to join in.
A football tournament will kick-off Saturday’s busy line-up. Sompting’s Got Talent is for residents to show off their skills and bakers here can joina bake-off competition to make a ‘Victoria sponge’ cake. In one of the many arenas dotting the grounds a medieval re-enactment will be staged, a highlight of the afternoon. An Irish band, a barn dance and a Status Quo tribute act will end the day.
On Sunday (2nd July) a dog show will provide residents the chance to parade their pets. It will follow with a giant picnic on the grass and a series of bands. Throughout the weekend, events will be held at Harriet Johnson Centre on Loose Lane with a Lancing and Sompting Pastfinders stall and a visit by Shetland pony, Roo.
The main fund-raising activity throughout the weekend will be a tombola. Money made will go towards the Harvey’s Gang charity. Councillor Godley thanked Sompting Big Local and all businesses who have sponsored the free event and said they have tried to appeal to everyone to enjoy the festival.
