Free classical music concert by the Bromsgrove Festival
A free concert, ‘Musical Fantasy’, promoted by the Bromsgrove Festival, will be performed at St. Andrew’s Church, Chaford, by The Orchestra of St. John. The concert to take place in Bromsgrove is on 1st July, at 3pm.
The concert aims to introduce young and old people to the joy of classical music and will last for an hour. Then there will be ice-creams served at the end. The performance by the wind and brass musicians includes pieces from Harry Potter, the Lion King, Indiana Jones and Fantasia.
The manager of Orchestra of St. John, Alastair Moseley, said many people are unfamiliar with classical music or even feel it’s elitist, but the truth is we are surrounded by it. He hoped this short concert will attract many and make them to come back for more.
As space is limited, reserving a free ticket is advised. They are available at St. John’s Church Parish Office, or St. Andrew’s Church, or on the day for people turning up. The concert is part of the series ‘Bite Sized Classics’ by Orchestra of St. John.
Visit the wildflower haven in Lake District
A guided visit on 4th July to High Borrowdale, which is now part of the Lake District National Park, by Friends of the Lake District, will take you to a lesser known wildflower haven. The wildflower upland hay meadow has been recreated by extensive work of volunteers of Friends of the lake District. They have also planted 10,000 trees to enhance and transform the High Borrowdale area into a stunning landscape.
Poet Harriet Fraser will be visiting and reading from her book ‘Meadow’, while camping. She frequently works in partnership with her photographer husband Rob Fraser and the ‘Long View’ is their latest exhibition at Brizedale Forest, running up to 31st August.
Jan Darrell from Friends, will explain how the meadows were created. She said High Borrowdale is still raely visited. The beautiful, tranquil meadow is at its best at this time fo the year, with a dazzling display of wildflowers, she added. She invited all to come along and learn about this special place and listen to the inspirational poetry of Harriet.
