The Arable Event is a free event, now in its 4th year, which will be held on 21st June this year. The event planned at Weston Under Lizard, on the Shropshire and Staffordshire border, is organised by Wynnstay and GrainLink. Last year, the event pulled in over 1,200 farmers and contractors, plus arable industry specialists from places like Warwickshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Herefordshire, Cheshire, Shropshire and beyond.
This year the event will feature manufacturers of machinery and many dealers, besides key speakers. There will be great variety in trial plots and a moisture meter clinic here. Attendees will get, for the first time, free soil PH testing and interpretation of results. There will be a chance to closely look at extensive trail plots, including at all the new winter wheats, oats and barley varieties, also at hybrid rye and triticale.
The Arable Event in 2016 held a day previous to the EU referendum, kicked up a lively discussion about its effects on farming. The topic will now be revisited, after the result of the Brexit vote, with Owen Paterson, former Environment Secretary. Other key panellists include Peter Farne and Simon Ward.
The free event has entry and refreshments free. Attendees can avail BASIS and NRoSO professional development points. To get fast track entry on the day, go for early bookings and get into a prize draw to win an iPad Mini. Avail tickets online, from the website- thearableevent.co.uk.
