Hawkwood College will be hosting its annual May Day Festival at its premises on Painswick Old Road, in Stroud, on 1st May, a Monday. The family fun day will have live music by local artists on the patio area, throughout the day.
Children’s activities throughout the day include storytelling, face painting, maypole dancing , treasure hunt in the grounds, nature and art. Adults get free taster workshops. The Hawkwood programme offers talks, chances to try out biodanza, laughter yoga, calligraphy and more.
Local suppliers will be putting up stalls in the main hall. Demonstrating and selling their works here will be some of Hawkwood’s tutors. Here guests can have a drink from the bar with beer from Stroud Brewery, or they can enjoy the barbecue with organic bites, or get a treat of delicious ice-cream from Winstone.
The ‘Bard of Hawkwood’, an annual competition, will be held with aspiring poets, writers, story tellers and singers performing here original works. Alicia Carey, the principal of the college, said they are celebrating Hawkwood’s 69th anniversary this year and fundraising for their coming 70th anniversary. Visitors are welcome to the free event, with the gates open from 10am to 5pm, where entry is free, but car parking is chargeable.
