The Swansea International Jazz Festival will be back this summer, on its fourth year, running from 15th June to 18th June. The popular showcase jazz event comes with over 50 events this year, to be held at 15 venues on the land and one venue on water.
Dave Cottle is once again the creative director and he has set the programme for attractions at the Swansea Jazzland in Uplands for Wednesday night. He has created a great line-up of popular bands and Big Bands, and a host of performers, singers and musicians, famous in UK and from abroad. The Dylan Thomas Centre and Dylan Thomas Theatre will be hosting ticketed concerts, over a diverse line-up, along with workshops. There’s also a workshop and concert by the South-Wales Schools Big Band. Free events will be held at pubs all across the maritime quarter. A water-borne jazz event will be held on Swansea community boat, the Copper Jack.
For the 4th year consecutively, the Swansea-based company Prescott Jones Insurance Solutions, will be festival sponsor, with the festival this year supported by the Swansea Council and the Arts Council of Wales. Managing director of the company, Ed Prescott, said they enjoy to continue support for the event. He added that it seems just fit in the marina and SA1 area and adds to the cultural scene of Swansea.
A spokesperson for the council said the festival which attracts visitors from far, is a great tourism boost and has enhanced the reputation of Swansea as a centre for festivals. The world’s most-performed living composer, Sir Kart Jenkins of Penclawdd, is once again patron of the festival.
