Free entry this weekend to Dickens Birthplace Museum

The Charles Dickens Birthplace Museum in Portsmouth is celebrating its reopening and as part of it, the museum is offering free entry for three days this weekend, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Charles Dickens, the world-famous novelist was born in 1812 in this building, a small terraced house in Portsmouth.

The house has now been renovated, furnished and has an exhibition room featuring displays on Portsmouth and the author, with also memorabilia on show, including his snuff-box, paper-knife, inkwell and the couch on which Dickens died. Special events will be readings by Dickens Fellowship and costumed volunteers. Residents of Portsmouth can show proof of address, to get free entry to the museum building, on Old Commercial Road, which is open from 10 to 5pm, on all Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, till September end.
