Trafalgar Square in London is ready for a special one-night only screening of the film- ‘The Salesman’, on 26th February (Sunday). The film, made by Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, will transform the square to host London’s biggest open-air screening of the Oscar nominated drama in the category of Best Foreign Language Film, which will also be the first showing of the film in UK.
Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, will welcome the director on Sunday, the day of this year’s Academy Awards. The Mayor said, in his website, this free event is Londoners’ opportunity to celebrate the city’s diversity, to demonstrate that creative talent and people from all communities and countries are open to London.
The director was affected by the ‘travel ban’ imposed by President Donald Trump in January. Although the ban was suspended, Asgar Farhadi chose not to attend the Academy Awards. Celebrated director, Mike Leigh of Britain, will be speaking to an expected crowd of up to 10,000 at the free screening here being organised by London Mayor’s office.
Starting at 4pm, the free event will have the audience taking places from 3pm onwards. The free screening will commence at 4:25pm, to end at around 7pm, at the Trafalgar Square.
