Parliament’s team to hold free public events in Birmingham

February 17th, 2017 by Sandy

Birmingham will be welcoming a special visit of the Parliament’s Outreach and Engagement Team to hold free activities and events, to engage the public and their families, to get them involved and influence legislator’s decision making. Birmingham Mail is joining hands with Parliament to bring both houses of Parliament to Birmingham, through the ‘Your Parliament On Your High Street’ campaign. It kicks off on 23rd February (Thursday), from 6am. A replica of the green bench seen in the House of Commons, will be available at New Street. Passers-by can meet the Team, talk about their issues and take a selfie.

On 25th February, New Street will host family activities by the House of Commons and the House of Lords, that include a game that helps you create your own legislation. Backing up ‘Parliament On Your High Street’, the ‘Parliament Matters’ campaign of Birmingham Mail sees 4 important reasons for supporting the free event. One is that decisions made in Parliament affect everyone. Another is because Parliament holds the Government to account. Another reason is that MPs represent you in Parliament. The other reason is to feel positive about how you can engage at anytime with Parliament. A new US President and Brexit approaching, is making news and never was it so important to understand the working of Parliament.
