The award-winning movie ‘I, Daniel Blake’, will be screened on 13th January, Friday, at 7:30pm, in the Leigh Parish Church. The movie, directed by Ken Loach, focuses on modern-day Britain and about people who end up on the social welfare system. The screening by Leigh Film Society, in association with Momentum campaigning group and Unite union, is free but donations will be accepted. The society is a non-profit organisation run by volunteers entirely.
The movie is about the story of Daniel, who worked for most of his life as a joiner in New Castle, but needs help from the state for the first time. He come across Katie, a single mother with two young children. A flat in a city 300miles away that Katie doesn’t know, offers her the only chance to escape from the homeless home in London, she is in, with a one-room accommodation. Katie and Daniel are stuck in no man’s land. They are trapped in the welfare bureaucracy in modern-day Britain.
