Skipton Town Hall will be hosting a free Christmas exhibition from 28th November to 11th December. The event is showcasing the work of 18 artists, the home-grown talents from the area, at Skipton, North Yorkshire, organised by the newly formed Craven Arts, which is run by artists. Running alongside the exhibition will be two free talks The first to be held on 3rd December and the next on 10th December. John Murray, the lecturer from Craven College, who trained at the Royal College of Art, will talk how dance can inspire textile designs. Bridget Tempest will be talking on film and print making. Chairman of Craven Arts, Virpi Kettu, will talk about the recent music video on the band Hope and Social.
The exhibition is set up by Virpi, who is an animation artist. An open call for submissions to the exhibition saw overwhelming response in applicants. A panel, including Carina Wardle of Mill Bridge Gallery and Catherine Johnson of Craven District Council, filtered applicants down to 18. Virpi said the aim is to make the existing art and creative industry here more accessible to those who live here. Free events like these help enable residents to see artists living around them and also hoped people will come in support of this first exhibition, she added
