Book Week Scotland is being celebrated from 21st to 26th November at Wigtown, Wigtownshire and Scotland’s National Booktown is celebrating it with Civilised Saturday. Wigtown Booksellers will be celebrating on 26th November (Saturday) with a day full of events in the town.
It starts at 11:00am with a popular character created by Amanda Sunderland- Wee McAsh, at the Curly Tale Books. The Old Bank Bookshop will have Lisa Hooper, printmaker from Port William, talking about her new book- ‘Printing Wildlife’, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and also will sign copies of her book.
Dorothy Alexander, the award-winning writer and poet from Borders, will be discussing in the evening about the debut novel – ‘The Mauricewood Devils’, at Beltie Books from 7:30pm, and reading from her book. Hazel Stevens the local writer will be launching ‘Our Ede’, her debut novel, on 23rd November at Craft Hotel at 7:00pm. Scottish Book Trust, the charity behind the book week, will be supported by the book-sellers with special sales during the week.
The free events organised by the Association of Wigtown Booksellers are also part of the UK-wide event- Civilised Saturday. It encourages to escape from the chaos of shopping bonanza day Black Friday, to support independent retailers offering supportive, calm shopping.
