Lighting of the Lights at Ilfracombe starts Christmas festivities

Lighting of the Lights is the big switch-on event for Christmas at Ilfracombe, the seaside resort on North Devon Coast, that will be building up at the Square next to the war memorial, on 25th November (Friday), with its traditional features and new activities. Following, on Sunday, will be Combe Christmas Winter Weekend, a brand new event packed with activities for people of any age.

The Ilfracombe Christmas festivities, expected to attract thousands, starts with a lighted lantern parade by schoolchildren, with the cast of ‘A Christmas Carol’ performing, including Santa and Christmas songs. After the switch-on by the town crier Roy Goodwin, followed by a parade to High Street, it features stalls, sideshows, food, shopping and free entertainment.

From 11am, Saturday, the event includes free Street Christmas Market, live music, Santa’s groto, Sonic Fusion’s Christmas party, kid’s rides, bouncy castles, food and drink vendors. Sunday includes a disco, a Christmas circus performance by Movez Maniax, Appledore Town Band, a carol service and workshops by local groups and also Ilfracombe Library. The winners of the Grand Draw competition will be announced too.

The free event will finish the day with a Christmas parade ending at the harbour and fireworks display at 6:00pm. Santa on his sleigh will arrive on 25th November, at the Lighting of the Lights and will be seen through out December.
