Four regional theatres have announced a series of initiatives including an offer of free tickets to productions at their venues, to support refugees and asylum seekers.

Four theatres, the Nuffield Southampton Theatres, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Royal & Derngate and Nottingham Playhouse, are all producers of ‘The Grapes of Wrath’. It will run from 6 to 25 March at Nuffield; from 28 March to 8 April at Nottingham Playhouse; from 9 to 20 May at Royal & Derngate and from 23 May to 10 June at West Yorkshire Playhouse.

This play is an adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize winning book of John Steinbeck, of the same name. The theatres will offer workshops too, to give performance opportunity and to overcome the language barriers. This includes ‘Now-here’, a series of performances from ‘unheard voices of Southampton’, at Nuffield.

Other productions announced at Nuffield include ‘Pygmalion’ (director Sam Pritchard) and touring productions of ‘Babe, The Sheep Pig’, ‘The Woman in Black’ and ‘Dr. Frankenstein’. The theatres have announced initiatives of free tickets and workshops to connect with the migrant communities.
