Lantern making sessions for closing parade of Festival of Lights in Irvine

November 11th, 2016 by Sandy

The Festival of Lights will come to a spectacular close, with a special lantern-lit parade moving through Irvine (North Ayrshire, Scotland). The event will take place at 6pm, on Saturday, 3rd December, which is a collaboration involving the Scottish Maritime Museum, the Harbour Arts Centre and Ayrshire-Youth-Arts-Network (AYAN).

To help participants join the event, AYAN will be hosting a series of free workshops for lantern and banner making throughout this month. This is ahead of the big launch on 30 November for St. Andrew’s Day. The series of workshops will be held at the museum, Harbour Arts Centre, Courtyard Studios and other venues in the neighbouring communities. Those attending the free workshops will be able to make their own banners or lantern to carry in the parade. They will also involve to help build two spectacular art-works for the parade, one the giant fish and the other the ‘ship of dreams’.

Ariel Killick, multi-art form performer, will be leading the drop-in sessions for the ‘ship of dreams’. The sessions start with a storytelling session and Gaelic Dream at the Courtyard Studio. At the Scottish Maritime Museum, Geoff Forest, the expert willow weaver, will lead the drop-in sessions for the wicker fish involving all in design and making. To book a free workshop for a group and to learn more about the Lantern Parade workshops, contact Laura at AYAN by phone-07713 585584, or email-info@ayrshireyoutharts.com.
