Free entry to Christmas Lantern Parade in Swindon
Swindon town centre will create a magical atmosphere at this year’s Christmas Lantern Parade, to recreate on 20th November an atmosphere to resemble a fairytale, taking after the Cinderella pantomime of Wyvern Theatre. Festival-goers can show off their own lanterns and creative skills, or they can participate in a free workshop from 12:30pm to 3:30pm, to get to create their own lanterns, with the material provided too.
The free event will start off at 3:50pm from Regent Circle, from outside the Town Hall. The Mayor of Swindon will lead along with snow-birds, Miss England Tourism, the Ice Maiden on Stilts and Jack Frost. The parade will proceed to Regent Street, then to Canal Walk and to finish at 4:15pm on the Wharf Green. The parade will conclude the Enchanted Christmas Lights Big Switch-on Weekend. Ryan Thomas, star of Wyvern Theatre Panto, will switch-on the Christmas Lights on 19th November (Saturday).
Swindon BID Manager, Di Powell, said this is all about everybody getting together at the town centre to light up and celebrate the start of the festive season, with the Lantern Parade of Swindon’s Enchanted Christmas. There is free entry to the event, but those wishing to take part can send their name, telephone number and number of attendees, by email to info@swindon.com. As flames are not allowed, attendees are asked to use LED lights.
