November 8th, 2016 by Sandy

The Scottish Book Trust has a full programme of free events lined up at the end of this month, for the Book Week Scotland 2016. The festival will be delivered from 21st to 27th of November and will be rooted in the central theme of Discovery this year. The 5th national celebration of books and reading in Scotland, will host activities and events across Scotland, with something for everyone, no matter what age, over a big programme initiated by the Scottish Government, supported by Creative Scotland, along with a Readers in Residence programme in libraries.

Book-lovers will be urged to take up Reading Dare, aimed jointly to help others to begin or continue with reading, or challenge themselves to try something new. The Reading Dare Randomiser available on the website bookweekscotland.com can help some with useful suggestions. An outreach programme will ensure Book Week Scotland is accessible to as wide a range of people, working with twenty local and national organisations.

Free copies of ‘Secrets and Confessions’ (15,000 copies), a new short-story and poem collection by people of Scotland, will be distributed during the week, through bookshops, libraries and outlets, to help people discover new writing talents. At 11am, on 24th November, children can watch a special free Authors Live webcast featuring Lauren Child, the famous children’s author. During the week, Dave Hook, the hip hop artist, will tour the country visiting schools. There are many more free events, books and activities over the week, with a big red bus touring to promote the festival.

The Book Week will conclude with an unveiling event, featuring Scotland’s 10 favourite books put to screen adaptations. TV, film and book fans can vote online, now open at the website- bookweekscotland.com, to choose from a shortlist of 40, their favourite page to screen adaptation.
