Coinciding with the Light Night celebrations, the Dundee Festival of Architecture will have a wooden map of Scotland that incorporates virtual reality technology, as a 2016 showcase. The big display includes the Prospect North exhibition. The map shows the different stories of 15 communities that have used architecture and design to change their area. The map uses augmented reality. The showcase event is being coordinated by many organisations, that include the local Dundee Institute of Architects group, Dundee City Council, Royal Institute of Architecture and Art and Design Scotland.
The exhibition begins on 19th November, the day after Light Night celebrations, hosted at West Ward Works and goes on until 27th November. Opening times are from Noon to 7pm everyday. The Scotstyle competition has two buildings of the city in contention to be voted the best Scottish building of the last 100 years. The winners will be announced during the weekend festivities. A Christian market will be hosted at Slessor Gardens. V& A Dundee’s architect Kengo Kuma has designed a pavilion telling the city’s story. Along with activities at the City Square, there will be a torch-lit procession, with replicas of Scottish buildings lighting the way. People in tens of thousands are expected to attend this free event that brings in a grand finale, the highlights of this year-long festival.
