Free awareness event of disabled sport ‘RaceRunning’, by Newport para-cyclist group

October 3rd, 2016 by Sandy

This week a para-cycling club from Newport will be hosting a free event in the city, at the Marrello Clinic, in Longstone Business Park, in their hometown. On Wednesday (5th October), the paracyclists group will be inviting physiotherapist Gabriella Todd to share with others her story about forming the first RaceRunning Club in Wales, plus how to involve in it.

RaceRunning was invented in 1991 in Denmark. The sport is all about racing with custom-built tricycles sans foot pedals. It has become popular with people with disabilities or handicaps like amputation, arthritis , cerebral palsy or balance problems. Although most of such events are conducted on athletic tracks, competitions are held both at regional and national levels. RaceRunning competitors participate on several terrains too.

Ieuan Coombes, Marello Marvels’ club secretary, looks forward to showcasing the sport at the free event, because it is a relatively new sport that allows a participant to move with his/her own power at speed. On Wednesday, the free event starts at 6:00pm. More details can be obtained by emailing to cycling@morrello.co.uk. Or by contacting Marrello Clinic by phone-01633412211.
