A beach themed event marks the second birthday of Banbury’s Parkrun. What started off as a national movement in 2004 in London’s Bushy Park, has grown massively today to have over 350 parkruns hosted all over the country. The free event marking 2 years, on 24th September, is inviting the public to attend the anniversary dressed in a beach or Hawaiian theme, at Spiceball Park, starting from 8:30am.
The event features speeches and before the run gets underway, there will be an awards ceremony, followed by refreshments. Michael Dobson, the event director, said the parkrun is not a race but people get points for crossing the finish line and also for volunteering here, with awards given for volunteers and the highest scorers. He added that they’ll have a bit of a party celebrating for another year. The parkrun has increased in popularity with now Bicester holding new parkruns, he pointed out.
