Popular Running Club of Loughborough will launch its initiative ‘Couch to 5k’ on 14th September (Wednesday), at the 3M sports ground in Leicester Road. The free 9-week programme to be launched, aims to get people off the couch and make them fit enough to run on a 5km competition. Called ‘Couch to 5k’, the free training will be run with the partnership of Run England. The programme starts off at 6:30pm, on Wednesday, at the 3M sports ground.
The running club spokesman said that the programme is primarily for people who are inactive presently, or those who find exercising difficult, but they welcome anyone wanting to progress with their running ability. The 9-week programme will build up physical activity gradually and introduce regular walking or jogging sessions, without pushing the participant, putting him/her off or getting him/her injured. The course is at a pace that can be coped with, without feeling exhausted at the end of a session, so that after 9 weeks, one is ready to run 30 minutes non-stop or 5km flat.
The spokesman added that the programme culminates on 12th November with participants running their first Parkrun route of 5km, in the Rushcliffe Country Park on the Saturday. Friends too are invited to join. To join up the free training all you need is enthusiasm and comfortable trainers afoot and to turn up at the sports ground on 14 September.
