Liverpool’s Folk Festival is all set to be celebrated from the 26th to 29th of August. The inaugural Folk Festival will see as many as a hundered folk artists perform over the exciting weekend. This free event, a first of its kind festival in the city, will be taking place at the Albert Dock, over the Bank Holiday weekend.
The free festival will have both up-and-coming artists and established names. A further 450 performers have been confirmed. They include Alasdair Roberts Trio, Gilmore & Roberts, Benji Kirkpatrick, Blair Dunlop, Laura J. Martin and The Lost Brothers.
The host of the main Dock Stage at Hartley Quay, will be Janice Long. Folk Festival on the Dock is part of the Albert Dock Liverpool 175 strategy. It is supported by Liverpool City Council and will also feature the new sea shanty’s premier.
On 28th August (Sunday) Our Liverpool Song will be performed during the choral event. Written by Kathryn Rudge and Jason Ellis, it is commissioned by Albert Dock. The song pays tribute to Liverpool’s role in both importing and exporting folk music across the world, over the sea and waterways.
A second stage, put up in Anchor Courtyard, will be a platform to promote new and local talent named the Stan Ambrose Stage. It has been named and launched in tribute of the host of Folkscene aired on BBC Merseyside, who had recently died.
Albert Dock’s marketing manager, Clare Rawlinson, said they were overwhelmed by the number of acts wanting to perform. He believed the Folk Festival on the Dock brings their city’s maritime and music heritage into a celebration and would be fantastic for both music lovers and families. The Albert Dock website will have the full programme of the free event.
