Free Bikeability courses during this summer is being offered to teenagers at the Sleaford Leisure Centre, on Eastbanks, Lincolnshire, on 8th August, to equip them with skills that will help to deal with more challenging traffic and all types of road conditions. Youngsters from 11 years to 16 years old are offered the Bikeability Level 3 course, that helps them deal with hazards, assessing risks while moving, planning safe cycling routes and being aware of driver blind spots, on UK’s increasingly congested roads, as a progression to the primary school’s course.
Bikeability and Cycling Officer, Phil Watt, said the course is an opportunity to learn vital skills to help youngsters deal with any hazard encountered while cycling. The courses will be taught by qualified instructors of Bikeability who also are DBS checked and will be run in small groups. Those who like to participate should have completed the Bikeability Level 2 training already. Those taking part must have a parent or carer to accompany them both at the beginning and end of each session. Plus, they need to have a suitable cycle helmet with a roadworthy bicycle. The course involves training on public roads. The course lasts for 3 hours. The free session times are 9:00am to 12Noon and 1:00pm to 4:00pm. To join the course, send an email to bikeability@lincolnshire.gov.uk. Otherwise call up Suzanne Walters on phone:01522 550593 and fill up the booking form.
