June 10th, 2016 by Sandy

The annual summer Riverside Festival, a two-day festival of art, music and activities, returns this weekend to the banks of the River Soar. On Saturday and Sunday (11th & 12th June), the festival, Leicester city’s biggest free event, will be hosted at Bede Park, Castle Gardens, the Mile Straight of the River Soar and Western Boulevard. The river will host activities including coracle boats, a floating tea-shop, canoe handling sessions, plus Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service’s demonstration by its water rescue team.

Bede Park will have Children’s Zone, storytelling, face-painting, a funfair, a giant activity packed tepee, table tennis, a riverside cafe and many more attractions. Local musicians will perform on the main stag here. Western Boulevard will have an eco-arena featuring environmental activities and stalls, an arts street and cycling related events. Activities on Saturday will be from 12 noon to 7pm and on Sunday, from 12 noon to 5pm. The housing association Riverside is the main sponsor of the free event and the Riverside Festival is run by Leicester City Council.
