The Granite City’s May Festival for history, sport, literature and science will be coming soon, to be run by the University of Aberdeen. The festival is back on its 4th year and will be hosted at the university ground in Old Aberdeen, to be held from 27th May to 29th May. Organisers say this is the best one yet and claim to have more than 100 events planned during the festival.
The programme has themes based on history & heritage, science, word, sport and something for children also. This year too literature will play a big part with talks and book-signing on offer, at the festival. It will also have talks and debates dealing with current affairs of the world and UK. The history and heritage theme will see more tours added to the programme. Among them would be a visit to the most northerly botanic gardens, the Cruickshank Botanic Garden, in the UK. Organisers are offering children’s activities from storytelling to music and film.
Head of public arrangement at University of Aberdeen, Ken Skeldon, said they give the opportunity to visitors to see different themes this year. He added that last year saw 10,000 people coming and hope this year to get more attending the mostly free events. Although majority of events at the festival are free, people need to book to attend, he mentioned.
