Free taster sessions in maths at Stockton-on-Tees
The Learning and Skills service of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council will be hosting a series of free taster sessions in maths, for those struggling to get a grip with numbers, angles or equations. Learners attending the sessions will be taught to approach a maths problem, like in Algebra, geometry and trigonometry, to tackle them with confidence and independently.
The sessions are being held at the Kiora Hall in Roseworth, on afternoons of Tuesdays, in June (on 13th, 20th and 27th June), starting 1:00pm, up to 3:00pm. Learners needn’t bring anything as all materials are being provided. The borough council’s cabinet member for Adult Services and Health, Councillor Jim Beall, said as we don’t need algebra or geometry everyday, it’s easy to forget it . He added that smartphones and such devices have taken away any need to mental arithmetic, but a basic grip on geometry and confidence in maths can help with DIY or home finances. It is useful to help others with maths problems, especially children and grandchildren with their homework, he pointed out.
Those wishing to improve maths skills, also get to enrol in September on a new GCSE course or another. To enrol on a free taster session, or get information, contact Learning and skills Service of Stockton-on-Tees borough council for Lynn Boagey. Phone to- 01642-528128, or send a mail to lynn.boagey@stockton.gov.uk.
