Free taster rides offered by Nene Valley Railway
You can get a free taster ride on the Nene Valley Railway in the weekend, on 14th May, Saturday, and 15th May, Sunday. The free rides are part of the open day of the centre, offering “behind the scenes” opportunity to visitors. Anyone can just arrive and get free admission to see what goes on at the railway.
The free ride is through the tunnel, taking you from Wansford to the Riverside Yarwell, on a brilliant vintage Railcar, and back. The open day event also has trade stands, Shop, a cafe and second-hand bookshop. There’s also free signal box tours, free shed tours of Locomotive restoration, free ride on miniature railway at Ferry Medows Station, free visit of Railworld and Wildlife Haven and free parking at Orton mere station. The timings for the free taster ride and other activities are from 10:00am to 4:00pm, all during the open days by Nene Valley Railway.
Free sailing sessions at Portsmouth
The Portsmouth Sailing Project will be held from 25 July (Monday) to 26 August (Friday), hosted by the Portsmouth Sailing Club. The sailing taster sessions will be provided on the water, right over the summer holidays, by the official charity of Land Rover BAR, the 1851 Trust, with Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation in partnership.
Chief executive of the Portsmouth-based charity, Jo Stocks, said it is a great opportunity for Portsmouth’s young people and surrounding areas, to learn about sailing and have safe fun. One of the key aims of the 1851 Trust, is to use the patron Sir Ben Ainslie’s inspiration to motivate a new generation and break down the barriers to participation.
