Bridlington’s south beach will be hosting the Volleyball England Beach Tour and the event will be held on 6th and 7th August, this year, for the first time in 8 years. Former stars of the Olympic Games are expected to play, with rounds to be held in Bridlington, Weymouth, Skegness, Great Yarmouth and the finals at Margate. With free entry to watch the volleyball matches, visitors will be provided tuition by coaches and equipment, for anybody interested in trying the game out. A taster day of volleyball too will be held on 1st July, at the leisure centre of the town, before the Bridlington Beach Volleyball Open, held annually, begins after a week. On 24th July, a Beach Sports Festival will be held. At the end of August there will be the Go Spike Big Weekend.
The portfolio holder for civic well-being and culture, Councillor Richard Burton, said they are happy to secure this volleyball event and welcome some of the best players to Bridlington. The event fits with their Active Coast vision, which aims at year-round leisure and cultural activity on the coastline of East Riding, he added. Chief Executive of Volleyball England, Lisa Wainwright, said they are pleased to bring back to the Yorkshire coast, the beach volleyball event. With some fantastic players in the region here, the best of English beach volleyball will come to Yorkshire this summer, she added. So get ready for free entry to the country’s top beach volleyball competition to be held this summer at Bridlington.
